Stay safe

Trust & Safety.

A safe marketplace is everyone's responsibility. Here's what we do — and what you should always do — to stay safe on Obilli.

What Obilli does

  • Every listing is screened by automated systems and a human team in our Cape Town and Lagos offices.
  • We verify phone numbers on every account and offer optional verified seller badges with ID checks.
  • We work with local law enforcement in every country where we operate.
  • Reports are reviewed within 24 hours. Confirmed violations result in immediate removal and account action.

What you should do

  • Meet in public. A petrol station, mall or police-station car park is ideal.
  • Bring a friend, especially for high-value items or first meetings.
  • Inspect before you pay. Test electronics, check vehicle papers, walk the property.
  • Never wire money in advance. Obilli does not hold escrow — anyone asking for an upfront deposit is almost certainly a scammer.
  • Keep conversations on-platform until you're ready to meet. Off-platform chats are harder for us to review if something goes wrong.

Red flags

  • Prices that seem too good to be true
  • Sellers who refuse to meet in person or speak by phone
  • Requests to pay via gift cards, crypto or international wire
  • "Agents" or "shipping companies" you've never heard of
