About us

About Obilli.

Obilli is an independent classifieds marketplace for Africa. It is built and run by a very small team, it is free to use, and it is funded entirely by advertising.

What Obilli is

Obilli does two things. First, it lets anyone in Africa post a classified listing — a car, a flat, a phone, a job, a service — for free, with no listing fee, no commission and no subscription.

Second, it aggregates publicly available listings from other African marketplaces so that people can search across several sites at once instead of opening five tabs. Aggregated listings are always labelled and always link back to the site they came from.

Where our listings come from

Listings on Obilli are either posted directly by a user, or aggregated from a public marketplace and clearly marked as such. We explain exactly how this works — including how to have your listing removed — on the aggregated listings page.

Who runs it

Obilli is run by a small independent team working remotely across Africa. We are not a large company, we do not have offices, and we do not have outside investors. Any claim you see elsewhere about headcount, funding or trade volumes is not from us.

You can reach a real person at hello@obilli.com or through our contact page.

How we make money

Advertising, and nothing else. We show ads on original listing pages and on our editorial content. We do not charge sellers, we do not take a cut of any transaction, and we do not sell personal data. Aggregated and demo listings carry no advertising at all.

What we are still working on

  • Growing the number of listings posted directly by real sellers.
  • Faster human review of reported listings.
  • Better local-language support beyond English and French.
  • In-app messaging so phone numbers stay private until you choose to share them.
