Why posting on Obilli is free, and how the site pays for itself
No listing fees, no commission, no boosted-post upsell. An honest explanation of the business model and what it means for you.
Obilli does not charge sellers. Not to post, not to renew, not to be seen. There is no commission on a sale, because we are not part of the sale — you deal directly with the other person. This surprises people enough that it is worth explaining what pays for the site instead.
Advertising, and only advertising
The site is funded by display advertising. That has consequences we want to be upfront about: you will see ads, and on some pages you will see ads that are chosen based on your browsing if you have consented to that. You can decline personalised advertising in the consent banner or in your browser settings, and the site works exactly the same either way.
We do not sell personal data, we do not share your phone number with advertisers, and we do not use your private messages for targeting.
What we deliberately do not do
- No paid ranking. A listing does not appear higher because someone paid.
- No paywalled contact details.
- No subscription tier that removes limits we invented in order to sell the subscription.
- No advertising on aggregated or demo listings — only on genuine seller content.
What that costs us
Being free means we grow slowly and we run lean. We would rather that than a marketplace where the cheapest sellers — often the ones who most need the sale — are the ones priced out of being seen. If that model ever stops working, we will tell you plainly before anything changes.
